So some of us have been discussing and this is what we came up with so far.
- we can put outing info as well as attendance here on the blog. this makes it easier to find and prevent inconsistencies in the attendance list. Also there will be no trying to find the latest post with the attendance list. TCSS about the outing though will prolly still be in kopitiam thread.
- announcements like special deals for members, merchandising opportunities, members getting married and births for example will be here on the blog as well. It will come in handy in situations like recently where the moderator killed a few of the threads without a link to the next thread.
- notes on any learning/sharing sessions (for example the one that Thomas did) can be uploaded here so everyone can see
- group photos during outings can be uploaded here. but i am restricting it to just that because I can take the bandwidth for the blog but not photo sharing site (I think .. anyways..flickr/photobucket/smugmug is much better for that anyways).
- we can post links and resources to photography related stuff here. for example I remember rocfreaks posting something about catchlights. Those kind of things can be posted here as well. I suggest we can request for what links to be uploaded here and we will add those here. Basically we can treat this blog as a “super-sticky” thread
- finally i would like this blog/site to be the answer to the question “How to be a member of Club 1000D?” or “Who qualifies to be a member of Club1000D?”. this blog accepts user registrations and one idea is to use that so to be official member of Club 1000D you just register here as a member. I thought this would be useful as sometimes we get deals (like the tripod one) where they wanna restrict it to only Club1000D members. This is so we can be fair to the people who strike these deals for us. I don’t think we will be strict on the user registration criteria. So anyone can join if they make the effort to come here and actually register.
This is what we have so far. Again I just want to reiterate that this blog is useful in the capacity that we can treat it as a super-sticky thread where we can have a permanent place to store information.
P.S. Just want to make it clear. The first 2 posts are mainly here so I don’t have to explain it to everyone but just point them here. It also serves as something of a reminder for me in terms of what needs to be done and what the original intention was so I don’t loose track. The actual site probably won’t be that wordy. I am just long-winded .. I know
Welcome!

Hi! Welcome to the home of the Club 1000D. We started out as a group of owners of Canon 1000D on the Clubsnap Forums. But I think it was fairly obvious fairly quickly that we are not going to be limited to that. The most important thing that kept us together was not the fact that we were proud owners of a Canon EOS 1000D. The most important thing was that we were all newbies and we were all willing to learn and improve. Hence we have since inception been very inclusive. We have ‘members’ who own other Canon cameras. In fact we have members who own non-Canon cameras. As a group we are very proud of the fact that we are a nice, friendly place to start if you are starting on photography.
We started out in the Clubsnap Forums but there are certain limitations to organizing a group strictly on a forum. The forum is pretty much created for photography discussion and it became obvious as the group grew that the normal administration of the group would make it a pain. Hence a couple of us have been toying around with the idea to create a site/blog so we can have a permanent place to store information that would otherwise be hard to find in the many threads on a forum. Some of us call it a ’super-sticky’ section JUST FOR US. This is not to say we are moving away from Clubsnap. In fact, this blog should compliment the forum and allow us to focus our discussions there on photography-related issues and not day-to-day administrative matters.
This site is definitely still in beta. In fact it is probably still in alpha or worse. It has been started as an experiment to see if this will help especially since we have been creating more and more threads all over the place.
So hang on tight and see where we go with this roller-coaster.
